Greetings everyone! My name is James Stancil, and I'm a News Literacy Ambassador from Houston, Texas! Any TEXANS in the house??? I'm originally from North Carolina and spent twelve years in Virginia, so SHOUT OUT to those two states as well, if we have anyone from those areas.

Please reach out to me if there is anything I can do to help you, or if you just want to chat about a few of my favorite topics - news literacy, media literacy, and/or digital citizenship!

So, I was thinking this afternoon, what can I write about this week? How about I share my five FAVORITE documentary films related to media literacy and digital citizenship? Will that be helpful for some? I hope so! These are in no particular order - please let me know if you have seen any of them, and your thoughts - also, what are some of YOUR suggestions, and why would you choose them? Let me know! 🙂

Hey James! I haven't seen any of these actually 😰 but I'm wondering if you've tried watching any of these with students? if so, how did it go?

@jmaze, I haven't heard of them either. James, thanks for the list. I have some things to watch. I would also like to know if you tried watching these with students.

@jmaze I'm not in the classroom now - I work in academic support at a university in my "day" job. I've used elements of "Fake" and "United States of Conspiracy" in some of my media literacy presentations with adults and young people, but not the full films as yet. One that I have used with high school seniors is Programming the Nation? about the history of subliminal messaging in the United States. I created a viewing guide, and we watched it over two class periods and had a fruitful discussion after each section.

I love this! Mine is Trust Me for sure. I'll have to check out the rest of these films. Thanks for bringing them to us.
