- Applications will reopen in March.
The News Literacy District Fellowship program helps education leaders develop and implement district-wide news and media literacy education.
Develop districtwide learning.
Purpose
NLP Model Districts are centers of leadership and educational excellence that demonstrate our vision for news literacy teaching and learning. These districts are home to some of the most innovative schools in the United States, where educators have reimagined their approach to news literacy education. Districts that complete our fellowships may apply to serve as Model Districts, demonstrating their continued commitment to widespread adoption of news literacy education.
As part of this program, districts will:
- Collaborate with a leadership network of like-minded peers.
- Be eligible to participate in engaging, relevant and innovative professional learning opportunities.
- Engage with the NLP teams.
- Receive exclusive NLP communications and invitations to leadership events.
- Receive the NLP Model District logo to use in communications and on websites.
- Be included in the NLP Model District directory/webpage.
- Receive framed and digital versions of a personalized NLP Model District certificate.
NLP District Fellowship alumni will be matched with new cohorts. Serving as mentors, alumni will work with new cohorts to collaborate, inspire and support their journeys throughout their fellowships. Alumni will be invited to two all-cohort meetings each year, acting as thought leaders and partners with other districts. New districts will receive continued support from alumni mentor districts through emails, district meetings and other opportunities for collaboration.
News Literacy District Fellowship alumni model news literacy teaching and learning. Their example and advocacy can be used to shape education in their schools across their state and region. Advocacy opportunities showcase district achievements. Advocacy could include:
- Participating in local, state or national conferences.
- Joining regional or state discipline organizations.
- Developing legislative connections.
- Pursuing original ideas and initiatives.
