Democracy’s Watchdog: My Lai Massacre

The press has historically, though sometimes imperfectly, served as a check on government and corporate power in the United States. This Checkology activity invites students to research an important example of investigative journalism and reflect on the watchdog role of the press. In this case study, students explore a Vietnam-era historical example. As an optional extension, they can create a resource sharing their findings with peers.

Students can complete this activity on its own or as a follow-up to the “Democracy’s Watchdog” lesson.
