Districts can now access award-winning Checkology platform through Clever
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Aug. 7, 2025 – The News Literacy Project, the nation’s leading provider of news literacy education, today announced it is joining forces with Clever, the global identity platform powering secure digital learning for over 110,000 schools around the world.
Now, the Checkology® virtual classroom, an award-winning digital learning platform from the nonpartisan nonprofit News Literacy Project, is even more convenient for schools and districts to access.
Checkology offers interactive lessons, infographics, posters and more to help students build news literacy knowledge, skills and habits. Educators can teach their students how to identify credible information, seek out reliable sources and apply critical thinking skills to separate fact-based content from falsehoods. Timely lessons and resources explore topics including algorithms and artificial intelligence, misinformation and news media bias.
With Clever, everyone in the school community can securely access education technology, powered by their unique digital identity, allowing schools to use Checkology with more confidence and ease.
The News Literacy Project already works with educators in all 50 states. Partnering with Clever – used in 77% of U.S. K-12 schools – will help the organization reach even more teachers and districts.
Educators and district leaders now benefit from:
- Seamless single sign-on: With one password or the flash of a Clever Badge, students and teachers get one place to access online resources, including Checkology — no extra passwords or steps required.
- Automatic classroom rostering: Teachers save time and reduce errors with rosters pulled directly from their school’s student information system – no need to manually create or update classes on Checkology.
- Industry-leading data privacy: District data is encrypted the moment it syncs with Clever, complying with COPPA, FERPA, GDPR, and more. Single sign-on and multifactor authentication provide even more protection.
“By making access to Checkology more seamless and secure, we’re strengthening protections for student privacy and removing barriers for teachers and district leaders who understand the urgent need to teach 21st century news literacy skills,” said Charles Salter, president and CEO of the News Literacy Project.
“We’re proud to partner with the News Literacy Project to make Checkology even more accessible for educators and students. Through Clever, schools can confidently bring this vital platform into classrooms with secure access, automatic rostering, and support that meets the needs of today’s digital learning environments. This is a powerful step toward equipping every student with the skills to navigate today’s information landscape,” said Dr. Viva Braynen, Senior Director of Application Sales & Success at Clever.
District leaders interested in bringing Checkology to their schools can now search for the app in their Clever dashboard and request to connect. To learn more about setting up your district with Checkology via Clever, download our guide for getting started.
