Mary Kane oversees copy from across the organization to ensure it meets editorial standards, including fact-checking and editing RumorGuard posts and email alerts. Before joining NLP in 2020, she was an award-winning financial reporter and earned fellowships at both the Alicia Patterson Foundation and National Press Foundation. She was part of a team honored with a George Polk Award for coverage of the subprime mortgage morass, served as an editor at Kiplinger's Retirement Report and The Washington Independent and spent more than a decade as a national correspondent for Newhouse News Service in Washington, D.C. She also was a graduate school adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University and at GWU/Corcoran School's New Media and Photojournalism program. Mary is a University of Pittsburgh graduate with a bachelor’s degree in rhetoric and communications.
