Nyssa P. Chopra is an international tech and privacy lawyer in the Privacy and Data Security group at Ashurst Perkins Coie US LLP, where she advises some of the world's largest online platforms and communications providers on data disclosure, cross-border data requests, human rights, child safety, AI governance and platform liability. Much of her work involves the demands that governments and private litigants make on technology companies for subscriber information.
Nyssa is co-chair of the Data Security and Privacy Committee at the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and writes Mentor in Law, a monthly mentorship column in Colorado Lawyer magazine and Substack for students and early-career lawyers. Previously, she was corporate counsel at Microsoft. She has held fellowships with the Aspen Institute, Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, World Affairs Council, and Washington State Bar Association. She received the American Bar Association's On the Rise – Top 40 Young Lawyers Award and NAPABA's Best Under 40 Award. She has been named to Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America for technology law every year since 2023.
She was a Fulbright Scholar in journalism in Germany and worked at U.S. Embassies in New Delhi, Paris, and London. Nyssa holds a B.A. from the University of California, San Diego, an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law.
