National News Literacy Week 2025 makes headlines across the country

Some highlights:

• In USA TODAY, Neveah Rice, a college freshman studying journalism and the recipient of the News Literacy Project’s 2024 student Change-Maker award, wrote how learning news literacy can help teens break out of social media filter bubbles and identify bias in their information sources.

• Also in USA TODAY, News Literacy Project board member Melanie Lundquist urged donors to support efforts to teach news literacy and make its instruction a requirement in all 50 states.

• FOX 13, an E.W. Scripps Company station in Utah, visited a health classroom in the Canyons School District to see how students are learning to find credible information to stay well.

• In U.S. News & World Report, Amy Wong, a college senior and former intern at the News Literacy Project, wrote about the difficulty young people have navigating information online, even as digital natives.

• Lawmakers in Nevada recognized National News Literacy Week with an official proclamation covered in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “Making sure that our students are critical thinkers is very important,” said Assembly member Cecelia González, one of the two sponsors.

• News Channel 5 in Nashville, an E.W. Scripps Company station, featured a high school teacher using News Literacy Project resources to help her students guard themselves against conspiracy theories.
