Board member Melanie Lundquist in USA TODAY: We must invest in news literacy
In an opinion piece for USA TODAY, News Literacy Project board member Melanie Lundquist leans into the Olympic spirit to urge donors to support efforts to teach news literacy. She calls on philanthropists to pursue public/private partnerships to make news literacy instruction a requirement in all 50 states.
“As I look forward to athletes from around the world converging in my hometown of Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics, I wonder whether dodging online rumors and falsehoods should be added to the competitive games,” she writes. “We need an Olympic-size commitment to teaching media literacy in our classrooms across America.”
