Educators asked. We listened. Here’s what’s new in Checkology
Since 2016, the Checkology® virtual classroom has been the News Literacy Project’s flagship resource for educators, packed with standards-aligned, expert-led interactive news literacy lessons and activities that are proven to work. Thanks to continued feedback from educators and students, NLP is proud to have launched the best version of Checkology yet this August.
Today the platform is educator’s one-stop shop for news literacy teaching needs. In addition to the interactive lessons that educators know and love — like “InfoZones” and “Introduction to Algorithms” — Checkology is now home to news literacy infographics, lesson plans, instructional supports and more.
Plus, new search features increase the convenience of finding resource options that are most relevant to your students and curriculum.
Here’s what you’ll notice when you log in to Checkology today.
Find exactly what you need
Checkology is now easier, and more organized, to navigate. Browse teaching resources by subject, grade level or type to find the perfect tool.

With new search features on Checkology, educators can more easily find the tools they need. Search “starter pack” to see our foundational resource suggestions to use this back-to-school season.
On the Checkology homepage, you’ll find these new features:
- A search field to help you locate any and all NLP resources, including Checkology’s interactive lessons, infographics, posters and more.
- A dedicated Resources tab (on the top navigation bar) where you can sort by criteria such as grade, topic and resource type.
- Tabs for other Checkology destinations you already know, including:
- Content – Browse through every interactive lesson and supplemental activity on Checkology.
- Check Center – Explore news literacy challenges, skills and tips, then use the Quick Check tool to determine the credibility of a piece of content.
- Word Wall – Access definitions to key vocabulary terms, filterable by lesson.
- Journalist Visits – Schedule a Newsroom to Classroom visit, either in person or online, with one of our journalist volunteers.
- My Classes – Organize students by class and customize each class experience with leaderboards, contests, pre- and post-assessments and discussion walls.
