The News Literacy Project is a nonpartisan education nonprofit founded in 2008 by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Alan C. Miller that aims to equip students with the skills to critically evaluate news and information, fostering well-informed, independent thinkers able to actively participate in civic society. NLP collaborates with educators, school districts, and states to integrate news literacy into the curriculum, ensuring students can discern credible information and understand the role of a free press in a democracy.

Our resources are used by students and educators in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and four U.S. territories. As NLP has expanded its footprint and impact in the field of news literacy, parents, policy makers, teachers, education leaders and the public have sought to learn more about our work.

We created this FAQ document to address common inquiries about our programs and resources, leadership and organizational values, commitment to nonpartisanship, proof of the effectiveness of our work, and funding sources, among other topics.

This resource is aimed at a general audience but also designed to be of particular usefulness to parents, guardians, youth organizations, teachers and other educators.
