Beyond ‘fake news’
The term “fake news,” which came to prominence during the 2016 presidential campaign, has become overused and weaponized to the point that it refers more to “things I don’t agree with” than information that is actually false.
The reality is that misinformation is far more complex and varied than the use of one term would indicate. In NLP’s lesson “Misinformation,” you’ll learn about five types of misinformation:
- Satire.
- False content.
- Impostor content.
- Manipulated content.
- Fabricated content.
You’ll also understand the importance of identifying and debunking misinformation, the possible consequences of different types of misinformation, and the effects of Russian disinformation during and after the 2016 campaign.
