News Literacy Project experts featured in Education Week forum
WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 17, 2024 — Experts from the News Literacy Project will be featured in a discussion on Thursday at a forum held by Education Week called How to teach digital and media literacy in the age of AI.
NLP’s Director of the District Fellowship Program, Shaelynn Farnsworth, will discuss practical tips for educators as part of the session How to become AI literate. She will be joined by Katie Gallagher, a technology integration specialist in the Gunnison Watershed school district in Colorado, and a participant in NLP’s prestigious News Literacy District Fellowship program. They will be joined by Cathy Collins, a library media specialist from Massachusetts who uses NLP’s free resources.
Education Week Assistant Editor Alyson Klein will moderate the discussion as panelists describe what students need to understand about AI and how schools can ensure that they are equipped to navigate this technology in ways that allow them to be fully informed participants in civic life.
The session is part of Education Week’s K-12 Essentials Forums, which the national news organization describes as free, two-hour virtual events “showcasing experts as they dive deep into the important topics of today.” Register to access the forum live, or on-demand after the event.
