News literacy is ‘key’ to civic empowerment, NLP says on Unpacking Education podcast

NLP in the News

Kim Bowman, Senior Manager of Research, and Peter Adams, Senior Vice President of Research and Design, appeared on the Unpacking Education podcast to discuss the findings of the News Literacy Project’s teen study on their news literacy habits.

They discussed how media literacy education is associated with boosted trust in the news and greater civic engagement among young people. They highlighted the demand for media and news literacy education, with 94% of teens saying schools should be required to teach these skills, according to the study.

“This is something students have a right to; it’s key to their civic empowerment,” Adams said.
