NewsLit Nation Insider:  Perks galore, and much more

I hope you like the new design for the NewsLit Nation Insider’s masthead. Thanks to all of you who voted for the winning look on the NewsLit Nation forum and on Twitter!

Last month, we mentioned that we’d be adding special perks and discounts to support our NewsLit Nation community. Now we’re ready to share a few! We’ve partnered with The Juice, an unbiased, current events learning platform. Its content is created by journalists, educators and assessment experts and published at four different competency levels, so all students have access to the same information regardless of their reading level. Combine our Checkology® lessons and resources with The Juice and it’s a news literacy win-win! The best part? Our partnership enables NewsLit Nation educators to subscribe for free for the entirety of this school year (a $150 value).

But wait, there’s more! As part of our NewsLit Nation community, you can access a discounted subscription to the Wall Street Journal at $4/month (a $480 value) as well as Barron’s at $1 for four weeks, renewing at $9.99/month for a year. To take advantage of the offers, use this link for Wall Street Journal, and this link for Barron’s.

If you happen to be at the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National Conference in Salt Lake City this week, please come see us. NLP will be hosting a special happy hour near the conference, and we hope you’ll join us. Simply RSVP here, then stop by our booth (#623) to pick up your ticket! Our event will take place at 4 p.m. MT on Friday, Oct. 22, shortly before a conference screening of "Trust Me," a documentary about how an avalanche of biased news and misinformation is undermining trust in society. The film is also a focus of free teacher resources developed by NLP — worth checking out whether or not you’ll be at the conference.

Our September giveaway winners were recently selected; to find out who won, head to the NewsLit Nation forum. And don’t miss our October gift giveaway! To enter, simply share a post about your favorite NLP resource on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #NewsLitNation and tagging @NewsLitProject. The lucky winners will receive Amazon gift cards (see full details in NewsLit Nation). Good luck!

Resources
The Sift®
Our weekly newsletter is back, providing teachers with a summary of the previous week's top news literacy-relevant stories and examples of misinformation. This year we are including a classroom-ready “think sheet” in each issue (example here). And on the first Monday of each month we’ll share a reimagined, video-based News Goggles featuring conversations with journalists about their work. We've also transformed The Sift's popular Viral Rumor Rundown into a web-based blog that highlights news literacy learning opportunities presented by timely examples of misinformation.
